If your basement has been hit by water damage, you’ll want to act fast to clean it up. The first step is to remove any standing water using a wet/dry vacuum. If the water is coming from a burst pipe or other source, be sure to turn off the water before beginning the cleanup. Once the water is gone, you’ll need to dry out the area as quickly as possible. This can be done with fans and dehumidifiers. If possible, open up windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate. You’ll also want to remove any wet carpeting or padding, as well as anything else that is lying in the water. Once everything is dry, you can start cleaning and disinfecting the area. Be sure to wear protective clothing, such as gloves and a mask, when doing this. With some elbow grease and a little time, you can get your basement back to normal after water damage strikes.
